How to Avoid YahooSPAM

As your moderator, I am committed to protecting your email from unwanted messages (SPAM) among other things.

Registering for online access with a Yahoo ID can give you access to our online calendar and other resources. Doing so is completely optional. If you do register for a Yahoo ID, you need to follow the following steps to avoid unsolicited messages from Yahoo. This should only need to be done once regardless of how many groups you join.

  1. Log in with your web browser to http://edit.my.yahoo.com/config/eval_profile (or select "Account Info" while visiting)
  2. Click "Edit your marketing preferences."
  3. Select "No" for any of the options that do not interest you (including the delivery options at the bottom)
  4. Click "Save Changes"

After doing this, you should be able to fully use this service without risk of SPAM from Yahoo or their partners. Yahoo does add small banner ads to messages. However, most firewall software can effectively block those if you prefer.

Ultimately, if you choose to delete you Yahoo account entirely, that can be done at https://edit.yahoo.com/config/delete_user. Once done, only log and backup files would possibly have any personal information about you (http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/archives/details.html).

If you ever have any questions or feel your privacy is being abused through this service, please don't hesitate to contact me personally.
